The Divine Wrap-Up

Glen Berry

WE DON’T NEED the brilliant intellect of a philosophic scholar to observe the signs of the times.  The simple mind of a child will do!

Not a fool, but a child. For the FOOL has said in his heart, “There is no God.”

The child is wise who fears God and believes His Holy Word. “The fear of the Lord is the  beginning of wisdom.”  The Holy Spirit teaches even such  a child.

God created all things. It is said of Christ Jesus in John 1 that “All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”  And, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word WAS God.”

We thus see God the Father and God the Son. By Him the world and what is in it was created in six days. These days are spoken of as each containing “the evening and the morning,” which we know as created TIME measured by our observance of the sun each day. (Gen.  1)

But God is not controlled by the sun. He MADE the sun. TIME or the SUN does not control Him but HE controls them, and all things. It is said in His Word that with Him a DAY is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as a day.

This being so, could it be that since God created this world in six days,  that just perhaps He has allotted six thousand years for man’s time on this earth? There HAS to be an END somewhere and at some “time.” But when?

THE FOOLISHNESS OF DATE-SETTING:

We do know that there was a first day, and there will be a LAST day. God Himself has His own “time-table” when man’s history will be “wrapped-up” and eternal glory will unfold and blossom in all its radiance for the children of God.

We know “Heaven and earth shall pass away; but My  words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch  and pray: for ye know not when the time is.  For the Son of man is as a man taking a far jouney, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning. Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you, I say  unto all, WATCH.” (Jesus, in Mark 13:31-37)

While man knows not the day or the hour, we do know that since New Testament times, we have been in “the last days.” “God who at sundry times and in divers [various] manners spake in times past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the  worlds.”  (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Also, speaking again of the Lord Jesus Christ, “Who verily [truly] was foreordained before the  foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.” (1 Peter 1:20)

”Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is THE LAST TIME.” (1 Jn. 2:18)

Considering all the scriptures relating to the last days and last time, and since this was spoken over 4,000 years after man entered the world, and spoken as the last times even 2,000 years ago, that puts us at the  present somewhere near the 6,000-year mark. So with all the “signs of the time” unfolding, we must be not only at “the time of the end” but at the end of the “end times.”

Men have foolishly tried to find a formula, using numeriology and scripture, to SET A DATE, only to be proved to be WRONG over and over and over again. Yet we DO KNOW that the Lord is coming back. WATCH!

FOOLISH SCOFFERS:

. . . Be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Savior: KNOWING THIS FIRST, THAT THERE SHALL COME IN THE LAST DAYS SCOFFERS, walking after their own lusts, saying, WHERE IS THE PROMISE OF HIS COMING? FOR SINCE THE FATHERS FELL ASLEEP, ALL THINGS CONTINE AS THEY WERE FROM THE BEGINNING OF CREATION.

“For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. But the heavens and the earth are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against THE DAY OF JUDGMENT and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”  (2 Peter 3:2-8)

BEWARE:

You probably are familiar with a court-room scene. There are observers present, as well as witnesses and the jury, if it is a trial by jury. But where is the judge? All is solemn and the people are waiting in anticipation. But nothing happens until the judge shows up. Suddenly a door opens and the judge enters. Even so, even now the Judge of all the earth is “at the door,” and when He enters, it will be suddenly.  “Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep [in death], but we shall all be changed, IN A MOMENT, IN THE TWINK-LING OF AN EYE, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and shall be changed, for this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. . . .” (1 Corinthians 15:32-54)

Compare 2 Corinthians 5.

“For as the lighting cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the wast, SO SHALL ALSO THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN BE.” (Matthew 24:27)

The Lord is coming back to “wrap things up,” to do away, once and for all, all the wicked and all the wickedness in the world. Yes, Jesus is  coming back with a vengeance:

“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”  (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, IN FLAMING FIRE TAKING VENGEANCE ON THEM THAT KNOW NOT GOD, AND THAT OBEY  NOT  THE  GOSPEL  OF  OUR  LORD JESUS CHRIST;  who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power.” (2 Thessalonians 1:6-9)

THUS THE  WRAP-UP:

A skeptic may say, “So what if the Bible says something will happen; that does make it so.” Yea, just like the fool who says there is no God! This foolish sceptic and the last days scorner are the same. Right after man was created on a newly created earth, God  said, in pointing to the cross of the Lord Jesus, that  He would crush the serpent’s head and the serpent would bruise that Victor’s heel.  And a vast number of prophesies relating to the life and death and resurrection of Christ spoken thousands of years before He came to earth in the form of man, have been fulfilled in marvelous detail. So a God who knows all things, controls all things and turns even evil things to the GOOD of those who love God who are the called “according to His purpose,” how very foolish, then, it is to question such an infallible, all-powerful, all-knowing One!!!

To that foolish skeptic, we say, “Yes, if God says it, then that DOES indeed “make it so.” So when He tells us over and over that a  TIME IS  COMING when He WILL wrap things up, when “time” will then be no more, and  when all the wicked will meet their everlasting destruction, then we KNOW it will happen absolutely according to the sovereign purpose of God.

So what does He say, other than what we have already reported to you?

The Bible tells us that in the mouth of two or three witnesses let every word be established. But we have far more than “two or three” witnesses. For starters for your study, look at:

“Have ye not asked . . . that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.” (Job 21:29-30)

And what PRACTICAL instruction is woven into this verse—“I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? [Meaning, why should I have lustful thoughts?] . . . Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? Doth not He see my ways, and count all my steps?” (Job 31:1,4)

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17)

“The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.”  (Psalm 37:18-20)

“Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shall see it.” (v. 34)

“But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: He is their strength in the time of trouble.”  (vv. 38,39)

“As smoke is driven away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.”  (Psalm 68:2)

“Lord, how long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? And all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?” (Psalm 94: 3,4)

“Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more.”  (Psalm 104:35)

“But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.(Proverbs 2:22)

“The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.”  (Proverbs 10:30)

“Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace!  O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.” (Nahum 1:15)

Finally, consider these two passages:

“For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be; yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him for He seeth that his day is coming.”  (Psalm 37:10-13)

“Thou shalt seek them, and shall not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and a thing of nought.” (Isaiah 41: 12)

God is gracious and forgiving toward the contrite and repentant sinners. But He justly takes vengeance against the wicked. As Hebrews 12:29 says, “For our God is a consuming fire.”

To the meek, to the humble, contrite and repentant children of God, it says, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.”

SOME PREACH CHRIST WITHOUT

BEING BORN AGAIN, AND NO SALVATION:

“Not every one that saith unto Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.  . . . Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? And in Thy name cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works?’ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)
